October was an academic librarian for 20 years at the University of North Carolina and Louisiana State University, and was an executive at two Boston area publishing services startups responsible for strategic relationships and business development from 1998 to 2001. In a decade as an independent consultant, she has assisted publishers and other content providers, associations, libraries, and consortia. Projects typically include competitive analysis, market research, product and license development, pricing, and marketing strategy.
She is active in the American Library Association (ALA ALCTS) and is a past president of the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG) and the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP). She recently served as the guest editor of Views of the Ebook Renaissance, a special issue of the Information Standards Quarterly and is on the Editorial Board of Library Resources and Technical Services. She is a frequent speaker at professionals meetings, including ALA, ASIS&T, Charleston Conference, ICOLC, NASIG, NFAIS, SSP, and TLA.
She earned both BA and MLS degrees at the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill and completed PhD coursework in LIS (digital libraries and the information industry, and qualitative research methods) at the University of Texas- Austin.
